The only damage incurred by the war in the city of Paris: bulletholes on this building.
The first bridge built out of stone, an idea originally laughed at! In order to make this bridge, the king had to get the money by taxing wine, which was a huge upset. Once it was finished, the king had a celebration at his palace where people got tremendously drunk on wine. A painter painted these sick people and the king thought it was great, so he got the faces put all along the bridge:
Every year the bridge is unkept by a laser technique, which keeps these faces looking well. However, one face is not given the laser treatment, to remind Parisians what happens when they do not pay their taxes:
There was a famous story in France in which a woman, who upon realizing that she could never be with the love of her life, wrote herself and her lovers name on a lock on this bridge, swallowed the key and threw herself into the river. To make it more romantic, people write their names on a lock and throw the key into the river, sans the suicide part. Funnily enough, there were quite a few combination locks... Wonder how those women felt...
The boys had French McDonalds for lunch.
